Description

Her heart is on fire, but the world is cold and threatening. Her mind is set, but here face is trembling. She’s about to leave into the unknown. Maybe she’s ready, maybe not, but there will be no turning back. When she turns around everything she’s ever known will be lost.

I’ve put lots of work, and lots of time into this one. I started it about one and a half year ago, and have been working on it from time to time since then. It’s one of those pieces that you wondered it you’ll ever finish, but now, finally, I did.

The background is amazing ! But i have a few crits about the character. I can see that you've put a lot of effort into it, and it looks great, I can see a bit of fear and a bit of curiosity in her eyes, just as you said. But she does not seem very well integrated into the background, she does not belong there. This could be due to the lighting you used, which is too harsh for the gloomy background. She should have a halo of light around her (as I see it, the light source is behind her), and she should look darker, and less flat. I also see some anatomy problems (nothing un-fixable ;) ): Her ear should be lower, bigger, and more to the back of her head. Her wrist looks broken, and you should look for a reference for the hand in that position, it does not look very natural. There is also something wrong with the distance between her eyes, or between her eyes and her nose, can't put my finger on it. The eyes themselves look great ;)
I hope I didn't offend you in any way, I just see a great pic with a few minor flaws, and it can get better ;)
+9/10 (thumbup)

Raluca

I agree with Ira that the background is to-die-for, but the figure doesn't seem to inhabit it. The birds and tree are also pretty darn spiffy, and I adore your color choices (misty green with copper? Absolutely!).
Having said that, I also think the tree's spatial presence is vague. The transition from fully-detailed, well-lit, very dimensional object to flat, blueish plane is somewhat abrupt and confusing. The thickness of the curved portion suggests that the tree may be coming back towards us, but the coloring/shading of it does not. I think maybe you just went a little overboard with the blue, lovely though it is. :p
As to the figure, there are some really strong parts (the eyes, for instance, are superb and awesomely intense). The hair's quite lovely, too, though you might soften the hairline a bit. However, I think some of the contours of the body are awkward, with a sort of abruptness or jaggedness to them (eh, how can I explain it?).
Yup, I feel I have to give plenty of crits to pieces about which I have plenty to love.

I like much the style, his(her, your) expression also. Though in the face slightly rare(strange). +9

I love this piece! yes the background is beautiful, and so is the figure. I seem to love them as separate elements, but in the same painting, which by the way works for me, not logically of course, but the elements seem to fit. A lot of work in this one, and if you wanted her to inhabit more of the space I think you should do it.:) Btw, the jagged edges of her outline are a little of putting. Also, flipping the image helps with anything weird looking too, if you haven't already done so.:]
Well done! A beautiful piece, and great color choices.

Wow, excellent painting. My only critique is that the eyes should be a bit more separated (the right one)
My max to this picture, great balance between painting and photorealism.
Also, the figure is well integrated in the background, and the skintones are amazing.

Beautiful painting, though her face looks a bit skewed. I love the rendering of the tree trunk and the crows. :)

Thanks people for the crits and nice words. I'm sorry I wasn't responding right away so a lot of you won't even see this, but for those who do. Know that I'm thankful, although some of the crits were hard to take.
